WIP - Wednesday 26th Feb 2014

This is my 1st WIP post and I hope to continue to do more. It's interesting to see what everyone is working on and maybe even get some inspiration along the way. You can find the link up for everyone's WIPs at  Tami's Amis and Other Creations

This will be the 3rd time I've made this blanket and though it's a little old fashioned I love it.

The 1st time I made this was before Christmas for a work friend as his wife was expecting their 1st child (she had a girl and of course she was gorgeous as all babies are). I was a little nervous giving it to him as it was the 1st time I'd actually made a blanket this footery and time consuming but was so chuffed when they used it as a Christening blanket for their daughter.

The 2nd time I made this was for another work friend whose wife was also expecting their 1st child (they had a wee boy who was born premature at the start of January and is still in hospital but he's doing brilliantly and holding his own, gaining weight and looking good).

This time however is for my wee sister who is expecting her 1st child and her due date is actually this Friday so I really need to hurry up and get this finished in time for her. I'm hoping it's going to be a wee boy just cause we've got two wee girls so we need a boy in the family to spoil rotten but as long as mummy and baby are healthy and safe it won't matter who we get to meet and love, we'll still spoil them rotten regardless.

This is a pattern that came from my Granny. She's not really able to crochet anymore as it's just too painful for her so I got all of her patterns and just about all of her wool (neatly two black bags full of wool, I was in wool heaven!)

There's no date on the pattern so I'm not sure just how old it is but on the front it says Ellen which would be my Great Aunt Ellen whom I never got to meet so my mummy guessed it's about 35ish years old.

Grateful..........25.10.2013

Today I am grateful for my children.

No matter how much they may wind me up, misbehave and make a mess of everything they come in contact with I wouldn't do without them.

So what if they make a mess, they're learning as they play and are discovering new things as they go along.

So what if they misbehave, I wouldn't want them to behave like perfect little angels all the time, where's the fun in that.

And so what if they wind me up, their cuddles at the end of the day make everything worth while.

I've been blessed with very healthy twin girls and I'm grateful for every messy minute I have with them.

Going to be a proper Auntie!!

Alll excited because my sister is pregnant!!!!!

I'm finally getting to be an official Auntie instead of being an Auntie by marriage.

Just want to keep grinning. Despite the fact I'm in work and it's an eugh night, nothing can spoil my mood. I have mini jaffa cakes and I'm going to be a proper Auntie.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Move over Doc, Dr Mummy is in town!

We had a teddy emergency this morning:

One of our teddies was sick!

Miss C with her teddy

Miss A my nurse for this morning
Such a serious business sewing up a teddy, they were so worried it would hurt him so there were plenty of cuddles to be had.

Then I had to have help opening my tool box as they call it:

But the operation was a success despite the worry and stress the poor teddy suffered:

And everybody was happy again!

Now back to my housework.....

To Etsy or not to Etsy?

This is something I've been mulling over for a while:

Should I try and sell some of my crocheted bits and pieces online, or just stick to giving them as gifts?

Yesterday I thought about it again and even went as far as starting to set up a shop on Etsy but other than giving my shop a name I haven't really gotten anywhere because now I'm filled with self-doubt.

Am I good enough to sell what I make? Would people actually want to spend money on my creations? If they did buy what I'm offering, would they like them?

So many questions and all they're doing is make me go backwards instead of forwards.

Will just have to concentrate on making a few bits 1st and trying it out maybe and see how that goes.

Will have to talk it through with Hubbie and get his opinion on it and let's hope he doesn't give me the answer he thinks I want to hear and is completely honest with me.

Our 1st Parent's Evening

How daunting!!

We really didn't know what to expect but the 2 teachers and the 2 classroom assistants were very welcoming and friendly and the other parents looked just as nervous as we did so that helped our nerves settle a little.

It was a complete information overload though I have to admit as we were given all the forms we need to fill in (doctor/dentist/health visitor info, details of who would pick them up, ni clearance forms if we want to accompany them on any trips, permission to take pics and publish those pics forms). Basically any form you can think of and we were given it last night and that's not even the end of it as apparently I'll be given more forms on Monday when we bring the girls down for their 1st visit.

At least the initial stuff is over and done with and now we can begin to prepare the girls for their move away from toddler groups to big school as it was called last night.

Now if only I can stop the hubbie from blubbering everytime he thinks of them growing up it would be grand......

Do I want more children?

We've already got our gorgeous little monsters and I've always said our family is complete but is it?

Maybe I'm feeling a bit broody because two babies have been born in our family in the past month, one wee girl and one wee boy and that's gotten me started thinking about us and maybe trying for another in a couple of years time.

Reasons for not having another child:

1st of all, my pregnancy was high risk and I hated being pregnant, I suffered big time. Fortnightly scans from my 12th week right up until 4 days before our girls were born. Projectile vomiting, Severe diarrhea. Heart palpitations that hospitalised me just before Christmas. Falling asleep everywhere and anywhere. Losing 2 stone.

2nd of all the chances of having more twins are greatly increased, is that a risk we really want to take?

3rdly, I'm not sure we could afford another baby. We're just about managing as a family of 4, could we cope as a family of 5?

Reasons for having another child:

According to the fortune teller my hubbie saw years ago he would have 3 children by 2 pregnancies. Okay, not a real reason but still he's used that as an argument since the girls were born to wind me up.

Our real reason for having another child is that we would love him/her and we've got a lot of love to give, and if we were lucky enough to have a boy then so much the better, because I'd love to have a little boy.

I dunno. It's something that we'll have to talk a lot about and we've got another 3 years roughly before my coil needs removed so plenty of time to come to a decision. Plenty of time to save up just incase we decide to try for another!

Twitter

I've been on Twitter for absolutely ages but have never really used it so have spent the last couple of days trying to work it out and try and cut down the people I've been following (my goodness there were loads of them and a lot of them I didn't know who they were!).

So, with my tidying done I think I'm ready to tweet a bit more regularly but I'm unsure what exactly should get tweeted - something else to puzzle out there I think.

Any Twitterers who can offer some insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you @Heatherh1982

The moment you realise that yes you have lost weight....

....when you're walking up the stairs in work wearing jeans for the dress down day and you're thighs aren't doing their usual attempting to start a fire rub that you're used to.

Oh YES!!!!!

Sick for 11 days...

I've gone from a sore throat to losing my voice to a bad cough and now I'm having dizzy spells, nausea, dodgy tummy and a great reluctance to eat or drink.

I'm falling apart!!

We're putting the blame on the mutated twin germs that float about our house when the girls are sick but the fact that Mummy is run down, not sleeping enough, not eating enough and generally not taking care of herself the way she needs to be doing doesn't help matters either.

Note to self: if the Mummy gets worse her girlies will never forgive her because that means the Daddy has to look after them and he doesn't do things the way they like them done

Lost my voice...

It's just about gone, I'm croaking and squeaking when I should be speaking and talking.

I don't think I've ever lost my voice properly before so this is a 1st for me (and my husband is loving every minute!!).

It wasn't hurting which is a good thing but it's just so annoying, especially when I am a receptionist for a large lorry firm and spend my whole day answering the telephone and each time I do I sound worse and worse! At the rate I'm having to talk it will start hurting soon.

Oh well, at least I'm in for some pampering tonight when I get home.

Reasons To Be Cheerful - 29th November 2012

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

1.
Our little terrors are almost back to their little bouncy, happy, terrorising little selves after a couple of days with a heavy, phlegmy cold - they just weren't in good form but thankfully they're on the mend. It means they aren't going to go see Santa on Saturday as we want to keep them indoors for as long as possible but there's plenty of time for that next week.

2.
This is a bit of a silly one but I was all chuffed when my oil light came on as I was driving to work this week and I rang one of the guys in the garage (I work in a lorry transport company with their own on-site garage) and asked him about it, I wanted to make sure it was my oil light before I rang the husband to bring up some oil for me but instead of just answering my questions he sent someone over for my keys and they took my car into the garage, checked my oil level and topped it up. How lovely was that? Even better was they did it for nothing despite the fact they had their own work to get on with. I work with some lovely people.

3.
In 2 days time the house is being decorated for Christmas (I absolutely refuse to have any Christmas decorations put up anywhere in the house until December, after that anything goes really) and we can't wait especially with the girlies helping more this year with decorating the tree and making various decorations for our house and for other family members. I'm looking forward to explaining to the girls what Christmas means and telling them the story of baby Jesus

Let the working mummy guilt begin!

My daughters are sick and I'm not there to look after them.

They cried out for me this morning and all I could do was walk away from them.

Being a mummy with a full-time job blows.

Since our girls arrived anytime they've been sick it's been me who's looked after them, me who's wiped their noses, given cuddles, me who's taken them to see the Doctor or Health Visitor, I've done everything cause their Daddy has been at work and now I've had to leave them and I'm feeling dreadful about it.

I know their Daddy is looking after them and then when he goes to work this afternoon they'll be looked after by my own Daddy so they're in good hands but that doesn't ease the guilt - they need me and I'm not there.

Books for Christmas

The Book People arrived in work the other day and left a selection of books for us to go through and order. This was a lovely surprise as I didn't realise this company did things like this.

Of course I've ordered a few kiddies books, I just couldn't resist. The only problem is the books I've ordered are for maybe older children than our toddlers but oh well nothing wrong with being prepared.

Just couldn't resist such a fun and interesting character. Having a worm as the 'hero' will definitely appeal to our girls who just recently discovered worms for the 1st time themselves and to be honest I thought the book looked good too (yes I did have a little read in between phone calls).

I'd never heard of Dr Seuss until I was High School and I'm sorry I missed out on him when I was younger so I want to make sure our girls get started early with him. Being monster twins up to no good I think Thing 1 and Thing 2 will appeal to them.

Hopefully the girls will love these books and hopefully the book man will leave more books in before Christmas so I can see if anything else jumps out at me.

This is not a sponsored post, this is just something I wanted to let others know about because I was so chuffed at finding them :-)

"Hello, is that the chemist?"

Caller:
"Hello, is that the Chemist?"

Me:
"No, you've dialed a lorry company."

Caller:
"Oh.........sorry........[hangs up]"

I've lost count how many phone calls like that I've had the past fortnight I've been here but they still make me giggle, especially as they're roughly the same time each morning and it's usually the same lady making the call.

Where I was before (a plumbing firm) every week there were a few oul' dolls who'd ring and ask if this was the Doctor's surgery, they never got the joke when I said to them we deal with water works but not the kind you're looking for; usually I got silence and had to very politely explain they'd dialed a wrong number. Never stopped me saying it each time though!

But Santa told me to.........

......and so it begins.

Already I'm using the excuse that Santa asked me to go through their toys to see what they had before he arrives at Christmas and our girls aren't even 3 yet.

I feel guilty but pleased at the same time that 1 of them, at least, believed me and actually helped me get rid of a few bits and pieces though to be fair she didn't realise that's what she was doing at the time she just thought we were looking for certain things and putting them somewhere different (naughty Mummy)

Not quite sure how I've gotten away with it but so far the girls haven't noticed anything missing and with any luck they won't but I'll keep my head down and blame their Daddy if need be! (definitely naughty Mummy!).

Me time...

Tonight I get to have some 'me time' i.e. time to do whatever I want, no children demanding my attention, no hubbie also demanding my attention, and no-one expected to call round to the house.

Hmm, what to do, what to do......

Of course all the housework shall be duly ignored; doing housework would just be a complete abuse of 'me time'.

Possibly a night curled up on the sofa with my crochet hooks, a few new patterns to read through and an endless supply of tea (or maybe hot chocolate with a sneaky splash of Baileys or two). I'll also have to catch up on I'm A Celebrity and eat at some stage too.

If the neighbours are making a racket I might just have to play the piano for a bit and play all my loud marches just for badness.

Maybe to top it all off when the hubbie gets home from work we'll have a take-away of some sort seeing as it's just the two of us home tonight (girls are spending the night with their Auntie) and a couple of drinks as we won't drink if the girls are home.

That's my Friday night all sorted. Any plans yourselves?

Reasons to be Cheerful - 15th Nov 2012

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

1.
I'm in full-time employment for the 1st time since before I went on maternity leave almost 3 years ago and though the extra money will come in handy the routine that will be shortly in place will be the biggest benefit of all mostly to the girls but also to myself (housework is going to get a direct hit though!).

2.
A couple of weeks ago my hubbie moved from being a temporary agency worker to a permanent employee of the company he work and it's now we're starting to hear about the extra perks of being a proper employee of the firm which is all completely unexpected but very welcome and reassuring. It's nice to hear amongst all the doom and gloom an employer who hasn't cut back on everything it can and is still doing it's best for their employees and morale.

3.
Our daughters are almost potty trained!! (please insert a rousing chorus of 'Hallelujah') This is absolutely brilliant, the only problem is that they both need to go within 2 seconds of each other every 15 mins and will only pee in the toilet and not their potty. Oh well, can't complain as the worst of it is nearly over.
