Our 1st Parent's Evening

How daunting!!

We really didn't know what to expect but the 2 teachers and the 2 classroom assistants were very welcoming and friendly and the other parents looked just as nervous as we did so that helped our nerves settle a little.

It was a complete information overload though I have to admit as we were given all the forms we need to fill in (doctor/dentist/health visitor info, details of who would pick them up, ni clearance forms if we want to accompany them on any trips, permission to take pics and publish those pics forms). Basically any form you can think of and we were given it last night and that's not even the end of it as apparently I'll be given more forms on Monday when we bring the girls down for their 1st visit.

At least the initial stuff is over and done with and now we can begin to prepare the girls for their move away from toddler groups to big school as it was called last night.

Now if only I can stop the hubbie from blubbering everytime he thinks of them growing up it would be grand......

Books for Christmas

The Book People arrived in work the other day and left a selection of books for us to go through and order. This was a lovely surprise as I didn't realise this company did things like this.

Of course I've ordered a few kiddies books, I just couldn't resist. The only problem is the books I've ordered are for maybe older children than our toddlers but oh well nothing wrong with being prepared.

Just couldn't resist such a fun and interesting character. Having a worm as the 'hero' will definitely appeal to our girls who just recently discovered worms for the 1st time themselves and to be honest I thought the book looked good too (yes I did have a little read in between phone calls).

I'd never heard of Dr Seuss until I was High School and I'm sorry I missed out on him when I was younger so I want to make sure our girls get started early with him. Being monster twins up to no good I think Thing 1 and Thing 2 will appeal to them.

Hopefully the girls will love these books and hopefully the book man will leave more books in before Christmas so I can see if anything else jumps out at me.

This is not a sponsored post, this is just something I wanted to let others know about because I was so chuffed at finding them :-)

But Santa told me to.........

......and so it begins.

Already I'm using the excuse that Santa asked me to go through their toys to see what they had before he arrives at Christmas and our girls aren't even 3 yet.

I feel guilty but pleased at the same time that 1 of them, at least, believed me and actually helped me get rid of a few bits and pieces though to be fair she didn't realise that's what she was doing at the time she just thought we were looking for certain things and putting them somewhere different (naughty Mummy)

Not quite sure how I've gotten away with it but so far the girls haven't noticed anything missing and with any luck they won't but I'll keep my head down and blame their Daddy if need be! (definitely naughty Mummy!).

Reasons to be Cheerful - 15th Nov 2012

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

1.
I'm in full-time employment for the 1st time since before I went on maternity leave almost 3 years ago and though the extra money will come in handy the routine that will be shortly in place will be the biggest benefit of all mostly to the girls but also to myself (housework is going to get a direct hit though!).

2.
A couple of weeks ago my hubbie moved from being a temporary agency worker to a permanent employee of the company he work and it's now we're starting to hear about the extra perks of being a proper employee of the firm which is all completely unexpected but very welcome and reassuring. It's nice to hear amongst all the doom and gloom an employer who hasn't cut back on everything it can and is still doing it's best for their employees and morale.

3.
Our daughters are almost potty trained!! (please insert a rousing chorus of 'Hallelujah') This is absolutely brilliant, the only problem is that they both need to go within 2 seconds of each other every 15 mins and will only pee in the toilet and not their potty. Oh well, can't complain as the worst of it is nearly over.

From SAHM to Working Mum

This week marks my return to full-time employment since I went off on maternity leave in 2010. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Though I've worked part-time off and on since 2010 I've always called myself a SAHM because I spent more time at home with our girls than I did in work and I've enjoyed every minute of it but now I'm returning to work and I'm going to miss the girls a whole lot but I'm also going to miss being able to spend all morning in my jammies with no reason or rush to get dressed or brush my hair!

Early mornings aside I'm dreading being out of the house all day only getting back home near 8pm each night after I pick the girls up from whichever grandparent they spent the day with leaving little or no time to get anything done in the house. Fingers crossed a routine will emerge from the chaos.

Thankfully I'm working with a lot of lovely, very friendly and helpful ladies who have done their best to make me feel welcome and have eased me into the role of receptionist/administrator with a smile and plenty of offers of cups of tea to keep me going.
